ColdTowne celebrates ten years of the next big thing, October 20th-23rd

2006: There was no iPhone, W. was president and the only comedy clubs in town had a two drink minimum. After a series of test runs, five comedy nerds opened a theater in a dusty store room in the back of a video store. It was put together with salvaged lumber, chairs and $400 they had pooled from the FEMA payouts they received after Katrina. Ten years later, ColdTowne has graduated over 455 students and performers, runs more than 21 shows Monday thru Sunday and welcomes over 800 audience members per week. October 20th -23rd, ColdTowne will turn ten years old, celebrating with a specially curated line-up of best-of and reunion shows.

“A notable group of Austin’s best known comedians honed their craft at ColdTowne: Parallelogramophonograph founded the first Thursday night run. Founders of The New Movement, Chris Trew and Tami Nelson, were co-founders of ColdTowne. Additionally, numerous stand ups have honed their sets at Maggie Maye’s SchtickLive at ColdTowneor special shows, including Mac Blake, Danny Palumbo and Martha Kelly, to name a few. ” says Executive Producer, Dave Buckman. “We’ve even hosted special appearances by Maria Bamford, Paul F. Tompkins, Marc Maron and late night head writer A.D. Miles.”

Confirmed acts for the weekend include Parallelogramophonograph (Hideout Theater), LaShonda Lester (2016 Funniest Person in Austin Winner), Matt Bearden, Eric Krug and Danny Palumbo, Opposites (The New Movement), A roast of kid’s show star, poodle Steve Scott and a ColdTowne reunion show. The weekend will also include performances from current ColdTowne favorites Bad Boys, Movie Riot and 2016 B. Iden Payne nominees Sugar, Water, Purple. The weekend caps off with a special All-Star Stool Pigeon hosted by Mac Blake at the Spiderhouse Ballroom. A full lineup of confirmed acts can be found on our website.

“Austin is exploding comedically and we’re delighted to see our grads getting recognition not only from the Austin arts community, but also being booked for web seriestours, runs at renowned comedy theaters in NYC/Chicago/LA/Amsterdam and, yes, commercials. We’re self-involved enough to think ColdTowne has played a big part in that, and want to celebrate the people that make us great.” says founder, Michael Jastroch.

ColdTowne Theater is located at 4803-B Airport Boulevard, Austin, TX 78751.
