ONE LAST NAME DROP: A TOM BOOKER GOODBYE SHOW
Before Tom leaves Austin for more northern pastures, he is having one last hurrah where he can do that which he loves most: tell stories and see his friends improvise off of them. It’s a full circle moment as he gathers up the folks that were such a huge part of his improv life here: Amanda Smith, Asaf Ronen, Claudio Fox, Clifton Highfield, Kareem Badr, Kenny Madison, Sarah Marie Curry and Stephanie Chiarello.
Like the complex flavors that emerge from a long cooked stew, Simmer gives breadth to scene work that may not be given time to develop in a faster-paced, comedy-first show. Offering windows into lives that can be chaotic or mundane as our own, Simmer’s shows take a more theatrical approach to improvisation that largely eschews ‘bits’ and ‘game’ in favor of depth and emotional realism. Never forced, the group’s comedy comes from a place of honesty, trust and play as audiences are invited to taste what’s simmering.
