The ColdTowne Conservatory!
The ColdTowne Conservatory offers five levels of improv and three levels of sketch comedy writing as well as custom-built corporate team-building workshops.
The ColdTowne Conservatory is Austin's premier long-form improv training center. Our instructors have taught and performed at some of the most respected comedy institutions in North America . . . and they continue to practice what they preach! As members of the troupes ColdTowne and The Frank Mills, they routinely play to sold-out houses and between them have won every major Austin improv award.
That depth of experience and commitment translates to an improv education that's second to none. Conservatory graduates can already be seen on stages all over town, and ColdTowne has also produced a number of talented student troupes . . . one of which (Midnight Society) won the 2007 Austin Improv Collective award for Best New Troupe after performing for only a few months.
Even though we're committed to offering the best improv education available, we never forget that the point of all this activity is to play. ColdTowne classes are fun, relaxed, and open to people of all backgrounds. It doesn't matter if you have any prior performance experience -- ColdTowne Conservatory will take care of you. Our students love our classes so much that they often sit in on levels they've already taken, one of the many benefits of being a ColdTowne student.
Other perks that come with Conservatory classes are free admission to all ColdTowne Theater shows (excepting some special engagements) and reduced tuition for workshops from visiting instructors. Of course, our monthly Level Six and Jam City shows are free for everyone, but they're also a great opportunity for our students to get a taste of real stage time in a highly supportive (if somewhat boisterous) atmosphere.
And that's not even mentioning all the parties, movie nights, karaoke outings, writing sessions, and other events that are continually popping up in and around ColdTowne. We strongly believe that great improv springs from a great improv community, and we feel lucky to be at the center of one.
At ColdTowne, we don't stand on ceremony, and we don't distinguish between students, colleagues, and friends. As far as we're concerned, we're all in this together. And we would love for you to join us.
New workshops and classes are being announced all the time, so check back or email us to reserve your spot!

Improv
Why Improv?
Improv builds confidence, improves public speaking, increases spontaneity, fosters creativity, and -- most importantly -- is fun. Whether you’re interested in a career in comedy or just looking for something wildly entertaining to do with your free time, our classes can help.
Why ColdTowne?
The ColdTowne Conservatory is the only Chicago-style long-form improv school in Austin. Our classes are based on the improv theories developed by Del Close, who trained such comedy luminaries as John Belushi, Bill Murray, Chris Farley, Tina Fey, the Upright Citizens Brigade, and countless others.
Instructors at the ColdTowne Conservatory have trained, performed, or taught at Improv Olympic, Second City, The Annoyance Theater, The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, and The Comedy Conservatory in New Orleans, as well as at countless improv and comedy festivals around the country.
